Blue Point Project
Glorified Statistics
Description
The BLUEPOINT project is an initiative to address the problem of marine plastic waste through sustainable and circular solutions.
The BLUEPOINT project aims to create a multi-stakeholder ecosystem of inter-cooperation, innovation, entrepreneurship and internationalization that leverages the marine plastic value chain and emerging business opportunities to establish a replicable circular economy model in the Atlantic- region. This will reduce the environmental impact of marine plastic, create new business opportunities (including acceleration of +25 companies) and lead the maritime sector towards a Blue Circular Economy.
Our Role
At Glorified Statistics in collaboration with the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems CRIS we have developed and integrated a system for plastic waste detection and collection in marine environments.
This includes:
- Edge computing analysis of drone obtained imagery.
- Cloud processing and storage of information.
- Online mapping of surveyed sites.
- Geocaching mobile apps (Android, iOS) for plastic waste retrieval.
Your Role
The BLUEPOINT project is open to everyone and anyone can collaborate.
- As an individual you can download the app and start collecting plastics in areas near you.
- Institutional users can use drones (some are being provided for free) to survey areas and use our desktop app to scan the photos for plastic waste.
- Enterprises can help to finance the drones and software by adopting marine sites in need of clean-up.
The Tools
The following tools are available to help us clean the world from plastics.
- The Blue Point app can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store and Google Play.
- Apple Store: Blue Point
- Google Play: Blue Point
- The Blue Point map of surveyed sites can be found here: Blue Point Map
- The Blue Point Commander app (Windows only, beta version) for drone image processing can be downloaded from our public data bucket: Commander App
- There is a limited amount of drones to be let to institutions willing to participate. Please contact us for more information.
- Finally, although we do not collect any personal data, make sure you check our Privacy Policy.
